Keep Your E-Bike Running Like New

A well-maintained folding electric bike can serve you reliably for years. Follow this comprehensive guide to keep every component in top shape.

Battery Care

The battery is the heart of your e-bike. Store it in a cool, dry place and avoid letting it discharge completely. Ideally, keep the charge level between 20% and 80% for daily use. If you plan to store the bike for an extended period, charge the battery to about 50% and check it monthly.

Tire Pressure and Inspection

14-inch tires run at higher pressure than larger wheels to maintain ride quality. Check pressure weekly using a reliable gauge—most 14-inch e-bike tires perform best at 50–65 PSI. Inspect the tread for embedded debris and replace tires when the tread wears thin.

Brake Adjustment

Whether your bike uses disc brakes or V-brakes, test them before every ride. Squeeze each lever and ensure the bike stops promptly without pulling to one side. Disc brake pads should be replaced when they wear below 1 mm thickness.

Chain and Drivetrain

Clean the chain every two weeks with a degreaser, then apply a quality bicycle chain lubricant. A clean chain reduces wear on the cassette and chainring, saving you money on replacement parts.

Folding Mechanism

The folding hinge is unique to your bike—and critical to safety. Inspect the latch and locking mechanism monthly. Apply a drop of light machine oil to pivot points to keep the action smooth. Never ride with a loose or partially engaged latch.

Electrical Connections

Periodically check all wiring connectors for corrosion or looseness. Wipe contacts with a dry cloth and ensure the display, lights, and motor respond correctly. If you notice intermittent power loss, have a technician inspect the controller.

Professional Service

Even with diligent home maintenance, schedule a professional tune-up every 6–12 months. A qualified mechanic can spot issues you might miss and keep your e-bike safe on the road.
